During his State of the Union address, President Joe Biden apologized for referring to the Venezuelan migrant who murdered Laken Riley as “illegal,” stating, “I shouldn’t have used illegal, it’s undocumented.”
In an interview with MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart, Biden emphasized the importance of controlling the border while respecting migrants’ contributions to the country’s economy. He clarified that while he aims for a more orderly flow of immigration, he does not share Trump’s derogatory views towards migrants.
Biden’s apology came after Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene interrupted his speech, demanding he mention Riley’s name and emphasizing she was killed “by an illegal.” Biden responded by acknowledging the remark and questioning the statistics of crimes committed by documented individuals.
The accused, Jose Antonio Ibarra, faces charges including murder and kidnapping, with police labeling the incident as a “crime of opportunity.”
