Modi in Kolkata: PM unveils India’s 1st underwater Metro route, other projects of ₹15,400 crore

On Wednesday, March 6, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and initiated projects worth ₹15,400 crore in Kolkata during his 10-day tour across 12 states and union territories. This marks his second visit to West Bengal in just five days.

List of projects PM Modi inaugurated in Kolkata, West Bengal:

  1. PM Narendra Modi Inaugurates India’s First Underwater Metro: The Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section of Kolkata Metro’s East-West corridor, spanning 4.8 km at ₹4,965 crore, features India’s deepest metro station in Howrah, situated 30 meters below ground. The corridor enhances connectivity to vital areas, including the IT hub Salt Lake Sector V.
  2. As per the Central Railways, although the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section of Kolkata Metro’s East-West corridor is inaugurated today, the commencement of passenger services is scheduled for a later date.
  3. During his visit to Kolkata, the PM flagged off additional train services to improve urban mobility. These include the Kavi Subhash-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay and the Taratala-Majerhat Metro sections.
  4. In addition, PM Modi dedicated the Pune Metro stretch from Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi, Kochi Metro Rail Phase I Extension (Phase IB) from SN Junction to Tripunithura, Agra Metro from Taj East Gate to Mankameshwar, and the Duhai-Modinagar (North) section of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor to the nation.
  5. In the afternoon, PM Modi is set to speak at a public rally in Barasat, located in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, which includes Sandeshkhali.

PM Modi’s Recent Bengal Visit:

Last week, he addressed rallies in Arambagh (Hooghly) and Krishnanagar (Nadia), criticizing the TMC government for “atrocities on women” in Sandeshkhali. He urged people to ensure TMC’s defeat in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
